SONG of MOSES
Will we ever sing this song?

Albert Einstein said, “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.”
Most people love music. Possibly you prefer classical, rock, hip hop, jazz, country, soul, funk, disco, or salsa. My favorite is Christian traditional and contemporary worship. If you come into my office at anytime, you will hear music playing.
I believe that God created music. It has been designed to worship Him – period! And, as the music brings worship to God, it also soothes the troubled Christian. It also provides an outlet for expressing joy and victory.
There were many singers and musicians in the Bible. Some include the Psalmist David, Judge Deborah, King Solomon, and Mary the mother of Jesus. When Mary went to visit Elizabeth in Luke 1:42, Elizabeth broke out in a Spirit-led song of praise and blessing to the Lord.
In the Old Testament, Miriam was a composer and singer, as was the prophet Isaiah, and King Hezekiah. Asaph was one of David’s three musicians along with Heman and Ethan or Jeduthun. Asaph is first mentioned when the Ark of the covenant was transferred to Jerusalem from the home of Obed-edom (1 Chronicles 15). He led the service of music in the tent where the Ark was kept 1 Chronicles 16.
Songs in the Bible ranged from joyous to mournful. Sometimes they were jubilant, while other times they were somber or militant or brash. But music must be a part of a Christian’s life. Ephesians 5:19 (NLT) charges us to continue “singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.”
Christians must be careful regarding the songs they sing. Corrupt music will corrupt Christians. Unbiblical or theologically compromised music will destroy a church. Secular music must be scrutinized closely before being embraced. Too many irreverent concepts can enter our hearts through the medium of secular music. Be warned.
The first recorded song in the Bible is in Exodus 15. It is known as the Song of Moses, and was a true song of Salvation. It set the pace for future songs in the Bible. Recorded in Deuteronomy 32, an aged Moses composed a powerful song under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. He wrote it after receiving the Ten Commandments at Sinai, and enduring the unfaithful people who worshipped the golden calf. Moses had also experienced wandering in the wilderness being fed the manna and quail.
At 120 years old, Moses announced that Joshua would follow him as leader. The Song of Moses was his final speech to Israel. It was followed with one more blessing for the various tribes. Moses cared deeply for the people and the Song reflected his devotion and love.

Ephesians 1:4-8 NLT - Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.
Prayer: Dear Lord – Good News! Through Christ, we join together with people from all over the world who have chosen to commit their lives to Jesus. Language and politics bring separation. But the Blood of Jesus unites us in the family of God. Help me do my part. In the name of Jesus I pray.

What the OT taught about Sheol

We have been discussing what the Old Testament teaches about life after death. The Old Testament writers knew that when a person’s body was laid in the grave, their soul passed into Sheol (hell, pit, grave) This place of departed spirits was not above in Heaven, but below (Proverbs 15:24), in the inner parts of earth (Ezekiel 32:18,21). It was a place where no one could leave (Job 7:9).
Neither the righteous or unrighteous wanted to go to Sheol. It was not Heaven. But Sheol was divided into two parts. Paradise was for the righteous dead (Luke 23:43). Hades was for the unrighteous dead. There was a gulf between them and they could hear or see into the other side (Luke 16:19-13).
But the righteous dead were not without hope. They believed that the Messiah would one day rescue them from Sheol unto Eternal Life (Psalm 16:10; 49:15). This Hope was fulfilled through Jesus in the New Testament.
Psalm 16 gives a powerful prophecy of our coming Christ. He will enter Sheol and raise Paradise with the righteous ones into the Heaven where God dwells (Ephesians 4:8-10). This Christ did between His death on the Cross and His Resurrection.

THE PAUSE THAT REFRESHES

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Psalms 3:8—“Salvation belongs to the Lord, thy Blessing is upon thy people. SELAH.”
Selah---what does it even mean?
I never quite understood until I landed in the hospital for 3 weeks.
That’s when I learned the real meaning of the word that appears often in Psalms and also in Habakkuk 3.
Some say it is a pause for silence, others a signal for congregations to sing,
I had a room with basically zero in it but a bed and me. No roommate, no television (that worked) and no cell phone. So—yes—Selah was all that I had---the time to ponder and pause. I had literally hours to think about what the famous classic statue ‘The Thinker” must have been thinking.
Actually, I had nothing else but God. But you know what? God was enough!!I learned that God was all I really needed.
Each day I opened my Bible and ran my concordance on various scriptures. Daily a light shone divinely on the part of my life I needed to meditate upon---hence my keen Selah Pause.
Like Coca-Cola liked to say---“The Pause that refreshes.”
Psalms 46:10) says: “Be still and know that I am “God”. Amen.
PRAYER—Lord, help me remember that when you are all I have—you are all that I need. Amen
