PLEASE DO NOT SHAKE THE MACHINE!

March 21, 2015

The other day, I went to a party at a lazer-zone style venue. To say that the building was filled with chaos would be to totally understate the experience. There was screaming and shoving and gleeful pandemonium. The perky owner was also a grandmother, and she did all she could to keep things civil and organized. She had placed dainty signs of hopeful admonition all around the building: "No Screaming," "Stay in Line," "Be respectful to Others," and "Happiness is Sharing." The signs were all well-meaning but blisfully ignored.

The best sign of all was stuck on the big vending machine that dispenses bags of chips, pretzels, and popcorn: "PLEASE DO NOT SHAKE THE MACHINE!" Honestly, it would have taken several grown men to even budge that thing if needed. So, I had to laugh as I imagined the machine being attacked by a dozen 8 year olds trying to obtain snacks by nefarious means.

Later, I decided that I really did like the sign. It boldly spoke to potential degenerates to stop and consider their ways. The machine represented order and privilege. When approached correctly, a good life could be had. But if you attacked it in an odious manner, judgment would prevail: "PLEASE DO NOT SHAKE THE MACHINE!"

I believe we should hang that sign on the moral standards of America. Further, please stop shaking our system of laws in the good old USA. Maybe we should hang that sign on the Biblical Institution of Marriage. Too many people are trying to destroy the Home. Indeed, maybe this sign should be placed on pulpits and pews! Let it serve as a warning to everyone that what God has written should not be tampered with, even by theologians: "PLEASE DO NOT SHAKE THE MACHINE!"

We live in an age of rebellion, brazenness, and insubordination. God is not pleased with our presumption and impudence. There is a line we had better not cross, or judgment will begin. Let us all be warned: Jesus said, "You shall not put the Lord your God to the test!" (Luke4:12)

What do you think? I would love to hear your comments. God bless!
